ABOUT Wimberley

Wimberley Association Management

There is a reason why those of us familiar with Wimberley, Texas, refer to the town of approximately 3000 as “Bootiful Wimberley.”  And yes, in part it has something to do with the 50 or so artistically painted fiberglass cowboy boots, each standing approximately 8 feet tall, dispersed throughout the community. The project, started in 2014 by artist Lynn Myers and gallery owner Robert Pitzer, was initiated to showcase the talents of the many local area artists as well as to draw visitors to the area.  Each “boot” is sponsored by a local community business or organization.  Each boot tells a unique story of the region’s ecosystem, the native wildlife, the history and the heritage brought to the area by the Native Americas, German, Spanish, Mexican settlers and the Texians who located to the area after Texas won the battle at San Jacinto.   

“Old” Wimberley is almost as colorful as the boots that line the streets.  You can spend hours browsing the unique galleries, jewelry stores, antique shops, clothing stores, and wine shops.  And if the sole of your boots starts to wear thin consider stopping at one of the fine dining establishments or riverside café options.

Strolling the town is only one of the many attractions offered by the area (and only one of the reasons so many have recently moved to the area).  For instance, there is the 126 acre Blue Hole Regional Park and the artesian springs of Jacob’s Well Natural Area.  Looking for some night time entertainment?  Try the Corral Theater.  

But Wimberley is so much more than a place to visit, which is why so many are moving to this part of the Texas Hill Country.  Wimberley has a top ranking for places to retire but also has a highly rated public-school system.  The town’s strategic location (centered between Austin and San Antonio and just down the road a piece from San Marcos, Texas) provides for rural living while still allowing you to take advantage of big city amenities. Low crime, moderate winters (yes, summer gets pretty warm but remember all those swimming holes) and year round activities within and around Wimberley, Texas, make it a “Bootiful” place to call home.
